Undoubted star of this mornings big garden birdwatch count was a superb Firecrest giving amazing views in our Dunston garden for a few minutes. Perhaps some of the best views I have had of this species and the youngsters were a little bemused by the sudden excitement!
A male Blackcap feeding on apples was another first garden record since we moved to the property just over a year ago.
For the record the BGB count produced a minimum of 99 individuals of 19 species.

Numbers of some species were slightly down on recent weeks and unfortunately there was no sign of the recent Redpoll, Tree Sparrow, Long tailed Tit or male Pheasant of recent days which would have crowned a truly fantastic day of garden birdwatching.
