Sad news indeed, John. Keith was one of the first birders I met in the 1970's and he was always willing to share his extensive knowledge with others. "The Birds of Lincolnshire and South Humberside" which he co-wrote with Stephen Lorand is a testimony to his vast contribution to Lincolnshire Ornithology.

A sad loss to Lincolnshire birding. One of the old school, he will be greatly missed.

A very sad day indeed. Keith was an inspiration to me and many other young birders. He got me seriously into birding in 1976. In fact it's virtually 40 years to the day when I had my first lifer with him, Bewick's Swan, at Anderby Creek in Jan 1976. The first of many. He was very generous with his time and lifts.

As well as writing the seminal Birds Of Lincolnshire and South Humberside with Steve Lorand, he was also one of the founders of the Bird Club and one of our leading lights for many years. The bird club and I personally owe him a great deal for all he has done for birding in Lincs over the last 60 years.

K Atkin died 18.1.16 aged 78. Funeral Natural burial Ground, Henley (on Thames) 11 am Thursday 11th February.

Perhaps we could organise some car sharing for those who wish to attend.

If you would like to go perhaps you could pm me with the following details:

If taking a car, where you will be going from and how many passengers you could take.

If you need a lift, what is the handiest point you could get to, to be picked up from.

From experience of the M25 in a morning to be sure of getting there for 11 am, a 6 am start from Louth and North east would be prudent.

Keith's funeral was attended by myself, Phil Espin & Howard Bunn today.
It was a simple funeral at the Henley woodland burial ground and as a fitting tribute to Keith his coffin had Red Kites on it and 2 were flying around over the site as he was buried. He will be greatly missed.
