Hi

2 short eared owl showed well on South Common between 16.30 and 17.00 this afternoon. Both were flying opposite the houses on South Park. Apparently three had been seen earlier in the afternoon despite the numbers of dogs being walked around them.

Only one short eared owl seen this evening. Watched between 17:00hrs to 17:10hrs, from South Park (road) flying over the area in the common near to the old railway bridge over South Park.

Best Wishes

Derek

Thanks for your report Derek. I visited South Common tonight 16.40-17.10. I got reasonably close to one SEO but spoke to other birders who said they'd seen three earlier in the afternoon. I was joined by John Farmer and James Hewson who took some good photgraphs

Cheers Colin

At least 2 Short Eared Owls were present still today. One watcher reported seeing them throughout the day between 08.30 this morning and 17.00 this evening.

1 SEO this evening from 430 to 5 hunting over the south common seemingly undisturbed by all around it and flying right over my head and occasionally resting up on top of hawthorns and looking around................. and all to the rapturous applause of the lincoln city fans in the ground behind us.

I spent an hour in the middle of South Common this evening (4.20 - 5.20) (Tuesday) with 8-10 other birders admiring the 2 (possibly 3) Short-eared Owls flying around. Two of the birds perched out in the open on tree-tops. My evening ended with an aggressive Corvid constantly harassing one of the SEOs, flying higher and ever higher and drifting towards the City.

I visited the South Common at around 17:00 hrs today and had wonderful views of a short eared owl, both in flight and perched. I was told by a reliable observer that three individuals had been seen earlier.

Best Wishes
Derek

After my first views on 23rd February, another successful visit today ( Saturday ) to South Park Common, Lincoln - a 5-minute car journey away (with son Alex).

Our first sighting was at 4.20pm followed by 1 (possibly 2) further SEOs over the next hour. Perfect viewing conditions with no wind enabled us to enjoy the birds both in flight and perched.

Also : Green Woodpecker.
