The Lincolnshire Bird Club

I've received a report of a Wryneck in Newport Cemetery in Lincoln this morning (2nd Sept). I don't have much more detail other than it appears to have been on the east side and may have been getting into some of the adjacent gardens.

Its worth checking out if anyone is available for a quick look.

I spent 2 hours searching the area this afternoon but no joy.
I only recorded 6 species in this time and 5 of these were just flying over.
The only species actually seen in the cemetery was Robin.
I suppose you could say that the area was "dead".

I know some of them are said to be good for green woodpeckers and spotted flycatchers (and owls and bats), but I've never seen much in a cemetery.

Probably being over-sensitive but I confess to find birding in such places slightly unnerving ( not to say 'spooky' which would probably be as inappropriate a use of terminology as Andy's).

What would happen if a 'mega' turned up in a cemetery and hundreds of twitchers arrived? Would some sort of restriction be in order?

Would it be distasteful to take a photo of the said rare bird if it perched on the grave or gravestone of someone recently deceased?

This an area of birding etiquette that seems to have been overlooked.

Does the club have any members who are in the clergy? If not, I shall have to look up the subject on Google.

The observer who reported the Wryneck on his garden fence bordering Newport Cemetery in Lincoln kindly supplied a photo. Its not a great image and I wanted to get some additional opinions before posting, but everyone is in agreement that the bird was a Nightjar.

To be honest its still a good bird for Lincoln and either would do in my garden!
