Report yesterday and again this morning.

Bluethroat at Willow Tree Fen a female/1st-winter male still by passing point on centre track along reedbeds.

Juvenile Bluethroat showed very well pm of Saturday (10/02/17). Park in entrance car park, walk up main track for 3-400 yards. Bird is frequenting left-hand side of track and grassy, boggy land immediately adjacent to the track. Occassionally on fence wires.

Bluethroat showing at less than 10 metres on the track straight out from the carpark!

Cracking bird showing really well and photographs allow for some close scrutiny of plumage features. It would appear to be a first-winter male but I was also intrigued if it would be possible to tell red-spotted from white spotted in this plumage. Although it seems it is not certain the article in the following link from birding frontiers makes for an interesting read. Possible red-spotted based on the info. in the article?

Went this afternoon for an attempt, but weather wasn't promising and the Bluethroat remained hidden in the reeds along the pathway. 2 birders hit me with the 'should have been here 5 mins ago' bombshell.... gave up when rain started falling.... rats. :(

May try again at the weekend if it's still there.

Bluethroat was still showing well this morning in front of appreciative crowd. All well behaved with everyone staying well back from bird.
