An adult Yellow-legged Gull was on the flooded cow field briefly this afternoon. It was the only gull present and flew off south.

Yellow-legged Gull is less than annual on my patch and looking back through my records I have never recorded one in winter before.

Dean Nicholson says that they are very rare around Lincoln in the winter and this is the only record he knows of this winter.

Apparently Ben Ward had presumably the same bird at the Apex roost yesterday evening & Pete Scott reported it washing & preening at Boultham mere late this morning.

The Yellow-legged Gull was again, briefly, on the cow field at 14:20 before flying off south.

There was also an adult Yellow-legged Gull on the shore at Donna Nook on 29th January. Despite an increasing run of records in the late summer and autumn, this was only my second Donna Nook winter record, the first being an adult as long ago as 27th January 1980.
