I am withdrawing the current record of Caspian Gull at Donna Nook. Challenging aspects of its identity and the fact that there was never anything with which to compare it, left me with growing doubts and no alternative but to put it down as questionable. I have discussed it with GPC and structure, races, hybridization possibilities etc. all add to the confusion of provenance.
Meanwhile, even though there have been quite a few reports of inland Swifts, I had to wait until today to see my first birds on the coast; 2 birds cleaving into the biting northerly wind. 16 Swallows headed north and also present at the south end were 2 Wheatears, 5 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps, a Garden Warbler, a female Common Redstart and a Tree Pipit.
