Whilst travelling to work this morning (12/9) along Washingborough Road towards Lincoln, I estimated a minimum of 500 hirundines feeding over the Anglian Water sewage works compound. This may well be an underestimate as the sky was filled with birds at times, most of which in the brief views obtained seemed to be House Martins with Swallows also mixed in - and who knows what else! Unfortunately as I was travelling in traffic at the time I wasn't able to stop to make a more accurate assessment of the numbers and species of birds involved.
