I agree with what you say, there are to many great people in the LBC and i will not let them down and I will be going nowhere.

Another few hours on the website today, its getting there and once a few more items arrive I can get it signed off and go live.

I'm away working at sea at the moment and have had unreliable internet access. I'd like to thank Colin for enthusiastically undertaking a root and branch reform of our internet presence which has started to seem to be hanging by a thread for the reasons he has explained.

LBC is getting left behind by many of its members and we need to work with the majority and the technology in most common use. At the same time we will try and take all members with us but we need to recognise that running our web presence puts a large burden on very few shoulders. Andrew Chick has done a great job to put us where we are now and I know he is very appreciative of the assistance Colin is selflessly providing in pulling our collective behinds out of the fire.

I'm pleased Colin is a robust individual and has dealt with comments from members in a straightforward way. But please let's not get upset by a bit of change. We have all lived through the digital revolution and everyone reading this will be able to get more out of our new systems when they are put in place. So if you have concerns please grit your teeth and then suck it and see, and hopefully we should get to the promised land. We have a committee meeting on 28th November at The Rodney in Horncastle at which I hope we can finalise what we intend to do. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Well said Phil, welcome back to Lincolnshire from the high seas, however I hear you and 3 others are off to Fair Isle next week.

Jack Levene just came back from Fair Isle, 40+ winds on all but 4 days of his 14 day trip so don't get blown away.

I can see it now, You, Andy Sims, John Clarkson and Andrew Chick, all lashed together, hanging off the cliff's to see something rare. Hope you all get some good birds.

I see no point in reconsidering my decision to leave if I am considered to be one of those hindering the progress of the Club. I wish those who remain all the best and hope that embracing all the latest technology makes their bird watching better!

I would miss the forum if it did shut down although there aren't many contributors to it nowadays. I do look at Twitter but don't write on it much, looking at my 699 posts on the LBC Forum not many would fit on Twitter (too long winded).
I don't believe LBC have a Facebook page yet? I might use it if they did as I do have an account.
When in the Midlands I tend to use Birdforums for my records. http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=200195
and there is a Lincs thread but doesn't get used much. http://www.birdforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=169
There is still the Lincsbirders Forum which I used to contribute to. http://www.lincsbirders.org
Records for the Lincs Annual Report are transferred from the LBC Forum and I wonder what will happen in the future.

Hi Geoff,

As i have said, we did listen and the new site does have a forum, its just that its not the same one as this one. It looks and works similar but allows people to add images.
The big change will be its Members Only and the site login and the forum are synced so you only login once.

The new site is just about finished, well enough to go live, however we are waiting on the up to date membership from the LWT. Once i get this I will be importing all the usernames and we can go live

Colin

We decided that the best way forward was to move the unsecured album and forum to a different domain, that way if they are hacked the hackers will no also be in the main website
To that end today I moved the 40000 files that make up the LBC Album to its new home.
Those who visit the album will see that its now at http://www.lbcarchive.co.uk/album. The logins still all work but obviously anyone who uses a direct link will need to update their bookmarks.

As the new forum will allow members to post pictures the old album will be locked once the new site goes live.

I think you are missing something here Trevor and that is what the LBC is.

We are a group of Birders, and Birdwatching is our hobby, part of that hobby is to record what we see, without recording the LBC would not be needed.

The LBC was formed to record the sightings and you seem to be forgetting that, thinking we are just a Birdwatching club.

The constitution states:

"Its aims shall be to encourage and further an interest in the birdlife of the historic County of Lincolnshire; to participate in organised fieldwork activities; to collect and publish information on bird movements, behaviour, distribution and populations; to encourage conservation of the wildlife of the County and to provide sound information on which conservation policies can be based."

And we do that by going out and recording it while we are birding. The LBC at least gives your records a real meaning so leaving is a bit like "cutting of your nose to spite your face"

Even if someone does not want to be part of the new fangled thing called Social Media, and many don't, its your sightings records that are the important thing.

I seriously hope you and any other doubters stay as member and give us VOLUNTEERS a chance, if not then that's fine, at least I tried.

Could i just ask that if you do not renew that you still send in your records.

Kindest Regards

Colin
