Going to Lisbon end October - Where can I go to see birds, and how can I get there? Reluctant to hire a car, but if I must!

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Bob.

Bob,

Based on the prompt service and helpfulness I received in preparation for my 2005 trips to Malta and Tunisia, and to Madeira this November, I can recommend:

a. Steve Whitehouse
(Ornithological Consultant)
Foreign Birdwatching Information Service
6 Skipton Terrace
Berkeley Pendlesham
Worcester
WR4 0LC
Tel. 01905 454541

Steve has a vast stock of Trip Reports for almost everywhere, available at a modest price.

b. Subbuteo
(Natural History Books)
The Rea
Upton Magna
Shrewsbury
SY4 4UR
Tel. 0870 010 9700

They can advise on the best field guides, bird travel guides, maps, CDs, checklists, ID charts and provide Trip Reports to help one get the most out of a foreign trip.

Trip Reports often cover travel, accommodation and car-hire details.

Internet

If you are a surfer, then you may have already typed in on Google 'Birdwatching in the Lisbon area' which brings up a good number of interesting sites.

Good Luck!

Regards,

Freddy

P.S. If you don't speak any Portuguese, and you are a surfer, then it might be good fun (and useful) to get your tongue around a very short survival course - 'Talk Portuguese - a lively introduction to the language in ten short parts with slideshows and videos set in Portugal...' at www.bbc.co.uk/languages/other/portuguese/talk
